But doesn't Rudel mean that once a single uboat reports a convoy, all uboat in nearby areas should congregate in its estimated route and hunt in group?
So I think once an enemy task force or convoy was marked on the map not too far from me, it's a call and order for me to leave my designated patrol area and reach there as fast as possible.

Oh, absolutely. As I said, you were expected to stay where you were told and not go galivanting off just anywhere you liked, but only until you received new orders. These might be for a new grid, or, as you said, another u-boat might report a convoy nearby, or a Condor patrol bomber might report a convoy heading your way, or a spy might report a new convoy leaving Liverpool and expected to be heading a grid or two away. SH3 not having the 'Report in and recieve new orders' function that SH4 does, it's not unreasonable to change grids after a couple of weeks. Only the '24 hours' part is unrealistic.

Precisely...therefore there is another option one might consider...using SH3 Commander, choose a grid of your preference (as ordered by Bdu) then change it after a week or so if you don't feel there is tonnage in that area.
