Direct X 10 Question

If a GeForce series 8 graphics card listing shows:

"DirectX: DirectX 10"

Can it be used with WinXp & on Direct x 9 games?

Usually, yes. That just indicates the max DirectX it will work with.

As for me, since I'll never downgrade to Windoze Shi*sta I'll never have the misfortune of dealing with DX10 (all those poor people wasting money on certain hardware, not realizing that DX10 doesn't use it anymore...). There are just too many things wrong with DX10 and M$ isn't likely to fix it.

As of right now, I'm leaning towards either a XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card for $80 or a XFX GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card for $120.

I'm not sure if the extra $40 is worth buying a 8600GTS!!

I'm very happy with the card. I have not had any problems with fan noise, etc. I kind of got burnt out of playing SH3 so I have not tried to start SH4 yet. I have played Call of Duty & Call Of Duty 2 since I bought the new card and I can tell a big difference in the graphics & the games don't bog down anymore. I also had to buy a new power supply to be able to run the 8600 card. It was a Antec earthwatts EA500 ATX12V v2.0 500W Power Supply. I bought both the card and the power supply from newegg.com; both had rebates & both had free shipping.

Good luck!

Well, you'll have to check for reviews don't know much about it but here's a 9600GT in the same price range, with 512 DDR3, core clock 650Mhz, 256-bit, memory clock 1800Mhz
