I still dont get your claim that UK is something special in Europe? And lots of countries are cabable of defending themself.

For one they're part of Europe as a whole so think back to the Triple Alliance or the Triple Entente and its pretty much the same. Nobody can attack one and expect the others to sit by. Thats the advantage of having freinds in the world.

And who needs the scale that the US has when the US is the one that rushes headlong into every war anyway?
