I would pay for an expansion if the major problems were fixed prior to its release. I have purchased two copies of SH4, that is enough support from me.

Now I do like the concept behind Steel Beast 2 PE, a modern tank sim I just love. The price is $125 and it uses a dongle for protection, you can load it on a 1000 pc's but without the dongle no play.

Along, with the game you get ongoing support, patches addons etc. This concept works for niche market type sims.

I support all sims that deliver, I do not expect perfection, nor that they be bug free, but I do expect support and patches as this is what the PC game market has become. Release a Beta and patch it into a finished product with the consumer being patient and understanding. With that said, I will refrain from any negativity. Its in UBI's court now, the consumers have spoken.

Yes, however I would buy it from a store where I can return it for credit/cash because I would suspect the product wouldnt be finished and require patches of its own.

This post is a joke right? Pay again for them to fix what they should have had working in the initial release? I think not. Moreover if they have any plans on releasing an expansion pack they had better fix the base package. If they do so without fixing it I will make sure the X-pack as well as the game with a fully cracked application file is the number one downloaded file for at least the first couple days of its release on major torrent sites both public and private that I'm aware of. This is no idle threat or rant. I have the bandwidth, knowledge and connections as well as the money to make it happen. I spent well over $2000 to return the slap in the face Creative Assembly and Activision gave the Total War community and I will think nothing about doing it to UBI because they are of the same ilk.

I'd pay more than the usual $50 for a product that works as intended out of the box, with a robust and informative manual.

You might think it is crap and that is your right, just as it is my right to express my opinion as long as it (and yours does not breach the ToS) With that said, I dont see how voicing my opinion in the manner I did comes even close to directly or indirectly violating any rules.

UBI is telling the community to bend over and take it like a man without preverbal lubricant yet again and people seem to have issues with consumers and very long term community members getting fed up with the crap and deciding to engage in a little civil disobedience and political activism - how sad, truly...

@ the_belgian - I have done so in the past many times over. The last major thing I did for the SS community that the average person may remember was develop a hires mod pack with some stalwart friends for SH2 (then gave it to WPL for exclusive distribution) after the developers said it was not possible due to some technical issues and other reasons.

BTW: They call it piracy when consumers use the product without a valid license. But they don’t have a name for it when they give us a license for a product that does not do what it is supposed to do - wait I think they do... They call it maximizing profits. I think the law calls it breach of contract. However the current legal system as well as purchasing systems are set up in such a way that the average consumer really has no recourse except to "try before they buy" in order to reasonable protect themselves from fraud and outright theft. Consumerism is a two-way street my friend.

I voted yes, although I really do feel that Ubi needs to put the patch out first and fix everything that should be fixed, not just the top 10 issues. That's BS! It's called good business. But I would gladly purchase an expansion disk if it was ever produced. I've been an SH1 junkie since the beginning, and have been waiting 10 plus freakin' years for this game!

It does, and it's not welcome here.

What is Subsim.com's stance in relation to warez and piracy?

SUBSIM Review has a longstanding policy against software piracy. We do NOT allow discussion or even mention of warez, abandonware, peer-to-peer game swapping, illegal download sites, or rip-off websites. Nothing will get you banned faster than pointing people to illegal software distribution sites. Don't ask for serial numbers, manuals, or cracks. Any admission that you have in your possession illegal software can and usually will result in revocation of your Radio Room forum account. Support computer game programmers buy legally purchasing their work. They have to eat too, you know.

I would. My reasoning? If SH4 had retailed for $80 and did not have the majority of issues it has now, I'd have bought it. Even $100, or possibly more. So I wouldn't mind shelling out a bit more cash, if (and only if) I knew that the current issues were resolved.

Until I'm assured of that, I'm too irritated at Ubi to hand over any of my hard earned cash.
