here somebody write them and ask
Chief of Naval Operations Awards and Special Projects Branch (Code N09B33) 2000 Navy Pentagon Washington, DC 20350-2000 but seriously, look how many games use the real ones I'm almost positivly sure that it isn't an infringement |

Something tells me the devs took a shortcut here, for whatever reason. It's not like there are a lack of American medal references out there to research... |

There are files in the sh4 directory with the real medals, no idea why they didn't use them.

Well in SH3 it was easy to replace the file, but here they are not worn in game. If the real ones exist there ought to be a way to replace the file.
The ranks are wrong too for WW2, Senior Chief and Master Chief (E8 & E9) did not exist then, Chief was the highest grade.

So, what *should* the ranks be? Apprentice Seaman Seaman 2nd Class Seaman 1st Class Petty Officer 1st Class Chief Petty Officer Warrant Officer *Ensign *Lieutenant J.G. *Lieutenant *I assume one starts as a LtJG, so these may need to be: Lieutenant J.G. Lieutenant Lieutenant Commander Does this sound right for the time and SH4 framework (I can't correlate the labels to the actual in-game rank insignia as I can't view the dds files)? |

WW2 US Navy enlisted/warrant officer rank structure should be:
Apprentice Seaman Seaman 2nd Class Seaman 1st Class Petty Officer 3rd Class Petty Officer 2nd Class Petty Officer 1st Class Chief Petty Officer Warrant Officer Chief Warrant Officer Chief Petty Officer (CPO) was the highest enlisted rank on a US sub. Usually there were 6 to 8 CPO's on a sub with the most senior holding the title of Chief Of the Boat (COB). |

I guess the game is not that historically accurate.
I went through a few of the developers list and most of them are actually Romanian. So I guess, they didn't do more research
