Everyone talks about the Gato class, but what about the Balao class?

Ye. But you didn't quote the last part of my post:

Note = there could have been some ships of each class that were actually commissioned and wen on partrol before the class name boats - but you get the general idea.

Balaos sure had advantages over the gatos and were generaly better subs. They had a stronger hull for a deeper dive depth for one :p

Theres no doubt il be spending most of my SH4 time in S-class or Salmon class Subs

The thicker skinned hull was the only appreciable difference between the Balao's and the Gato's.
