Oh do you mean this?

As for getting a copy I doubt you can get a retail one unless you're lucky enough to find a used copy in a store. I still have my original and I also have the Core Contingency expansion.

Fine do you guys want to me to just TELL you what this thread has to do with SH3?

Krogoth was my bestest Core friend *snif*
/harks abck to the days of a single 36 hour network game of TA and more nukes than you could shake a stick at.
lol I remember dreaming thousands of little robots striding accross the land after games that lasted that long.

Yer, Supreme Commander looks good I especially like the promise of running in dual screen mode . Also I've had a look at the wikipedia thing on TA and TA:Spring (wassit called?) If only I could get my hands on a copy of the original...

I never let go of my original copy and apparently copies of the Core Contingency are rare and expensive. Got mine foe $10. Good ole' TA. My friends and I are all tight with that game. We haven't played in years so I think in the build up to SA I'll try and rope 'em into some games.

Okay you guys want to know how I can connet SH3 to TA?

In SH3 the other day I was setting up a new career and suddenly I noticed the music. I was astonished. It was a testament to how much I played that game that I recalled the music quite clearly. Apparently Grey Wolves includes at least one track of TA music for the main screen.

I must say best dramatic musical score in a game belongs to TA.

Any GW devs gonna confirm this?

I just spent the last number of hours finding all the good TA content on the internet I could find. I'm getting all nostalgic now. Truly it is the greatest RTS ever.

I think when I need a break from Beta testing GWX I'll get right back into TA. Rope my friends into it. Maybe some guys here are old TA players.

I wonder who still has their old TA disks?

I have it! I'l never get rid o' it! And no, I don't think TA has the best musical score in the gaming history, I know it has the best musical score in the gaming history. Probably the first RTS going with a orchestra instead of that old rock music. I always turns the music up on maximum every time I play just to hear it. I really love one of the scores: I think it's called "The march unto death" and begins with a violin, and then another one comes in, and after a while the other instruments joins in for a dramatical battle-soundtrack. Surely this is the best RTS ever created. Because who can think it's not dramatic when you build up your base, you construct a radar, sees a big dot on the map closing in with high speed, and before you can say "I think CORE is attacking with a huge army of "The Can" and I'm done for", the CORE attackes with a huge army of "The Can" and you are done for. At the same time the music changes dramaticly and your pulse is speeding up, and for every explosion the screen actually shakes.

Nostalgia? Oh yes. And I don't think TA has ever been dull or boring, because no battle is the other like, and you know it's always a pleasure when you just have finished building that 3rd Big Bertha and is ready to unleash hell.

Can you say the best RTS ever created? I can (And have said that at least ones in this post )

.................I rest my case....

Best RTS ever? That is a tie between Command & Conquer and Soldiers: Heroes of WW2.

But what is this thread about? Tell us!

Edit: Maybe Company of Heroes can be mentioned in the same class, although its never popular to bring new games into these discussions.

I always say that the best RTS ever created was StarCraft. But I never really played TA, so I can't really tell you.

There are many RTS games that are EXCELLENT (like the Cossacks series), but StarCraft just rocked. Even better then the legendary WarCraft.

I really need to create a dual boot Win98 OS to play old games and sink into nostalgia, but I'm affraid that with GWX comming, neither developers neither Beta testers will be getting much time to think about nostalgia.

But he hasn't revealed the connection between SH3 and TA.

Which you should, as I guess the community is completly dry on ideas that would connect both games.

My fav part about playing those game multiplayer was the trusty 28.8 or 33.6 modems. This sound familiar to anyone else,...youre 2 hrs into a great game with a friend then all of a sudden WAITING FOR PLAYER....WAITING FOR PLAYER....PLAYER DROPPED.

Are you insane?! You shouldn't ever try and become a diplomat cause you just declared war! The only thing that's worse than the beef between Israel and Palestine is between TA player and Starcraft players.

I'll be subtle... STARCRAFT IS ABSOLUTE $HITE! That wasn't very subtle was it.:hmm:

Okay maybe not completely terrible but Starcraft is such a limiting game. Its all about stupid base building. The tactical and strategic options can be counted on your 10 fingers and thats for the whole of the three races. Starcraft is basically the BEST RTS for the Command and Conquer generation of RTSs. Too bad a full year earlier TA totally ripped RTS games a new one.

I can't hope to say everything taht I can about TA in one post but I'll just say that with Brood War Starcraft was a very balanced game and a very predictable game. What it came down to was not imagination but familiarity with your race and familiarity with teh weaknesses of your opponent. You had to know how to maximize production. Production was everything and the units themselves were less than complex in their implementation.

Seeing a Zerg base with about 20 hives after 10 minutes just makes me sick.

TA on the otehr hand has 3D EVERYTHING. That means not only are the explosions SICK but the terrain affects gameplay more than just creating simple choke points based on invisible walls or Cliffs that are WAY out of proportion. The rolling hills of a desert map or the forests of a green world that YOU COULD LIGHT ON FIRE TO DAMANGE YOUR ENEMY!

Base building was important but you have to maintain offensive attacks or else you'll lose the map. In Starcraft you had those crappy crystals conveniently stord in your base but in TA there is no arbitraty base and you have to fight for control of metal sources all over the map. Not to mention the fact that there was a legitimate Early, Middle, and Late game. What works for early doesn't work for the late game.

And of course there's the fact that which units you build and how you use them has a major impact on how the game plays out. Pincer movements and encirclement and feigns and spying and recon and carefully balanced taskforces are all needed to win against a good player.

There is no sully unit cap so the game cankeep going and going until either your enemy is dead or both your computers crash from system overload. Best of all every game played out differently and replaying the same strategy over and over wasn't going to work.

It is the most flexible and moddable (and modded) RTS every made and even today you can play it and enjoy it more than otehr games.

In the end Starcraft is basically you playing against yourself. You win or lose in the first 10 minutes of base building.
TA involves you and your enemy. A true dual (or WAR if you play multi player).
That's my tirade.
