Is it just me or does the outline ('shadow') of the diving plane on the subs hull look considerably larger than the diving plane?:hmm:

I guess it's a shadow made by a light-reflection coming from the waves just beneath the dive-plane.
Guess you have to see a moving sub, to know it for sure.

Another guess....maybe they're picking up those men, and they're supposed to climb on the plane first?

They wouldn't have them step on the dive planes. Usually there's a rope ladder to put over the side. The dive planes would be out if they wanted to dive fast after the pickup,,,,,,,,,

One things for sure, it's going to need a new skin... something that looks like it doesn't have feces thrown at it.

This one's looks like it's seen alot of action, but it doesn't look like in the screenshot.

I hope fubar can come up with something.

you're right Boris. The conning tower looks brand newly painted and the hull rust doesn't look real. I did a few paint jobs on the ol' USS Segundo (SS398) and most times the rust is around the corners and welds...........

So let's go to work then. The first skin mod will be out before the game itself...

(Seth: you worried about mods? )

If one looks close at the tower's side you can see what seems to be some weathering. My concern (gasp if you wish when looking at the scene) is NO US Sub EVER left on a mission with it's anchor in place!!!!!! Also the deck post with lines attached, were never were in place either during a patrol !!!!!!!!! I hope this is a training mission as I would hate to be depth charged and have an anchor come off and it's chain rattle away my position or have one of the deck lines get caught in a mine cable while attempting to enter a harbor and drop of a UDT team !!!

Happy Hunting

Judging from other pictures the anchor is always there. I guess that you will have to live with it like I had to live with my UZO scopes being on the coning tower all the time in Silent Hunter 3.

I don't think you need to concern yourself over this, as it's a pretty safe bet that this level of detail is not modelled within the game. Sure it would be nice to have everything modelled correctly, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't think this matters much at all.

I think what he worries about is the historical inaccuracy.

US Diesel boats all have the anchor on the outside of the hull. There is a anchor chain locker in the superstructure. As for the lifelines, during the 60's they were only put up while in port for safety. Underway I would think that they would be a sound problem, such as vibration giving your position away.
