I tend to use aft torpedos for targets that have moved passed me that need to be finnished off.

Another way to use aft torpedoes is in an ambush position, where you are basically just camped out as the enemy passes astern of you. That way you don't have to maneuver and attack too.
Then it's just a matter of repetition so that all the small steps don't saturate the neural network. You have to change a frustrating conscious procedure into a well-honed automatic procedure. Once you can perform the individual steps without having to think about it, you'll be able to incorporate the tricky stuff. ![]()

Take Ginger Rodgers advice...just do exactly what Fred Astaire does...except in reverse.
You can naturally dispense with the while wearing high heels part... ![]() Hey... the aft tubes are no more difficult to attack with than the Bow tubes. At first it can be intimidating ....having to reason things out "backwards" but in no time you'll master it with ease. Trust me.

Personally, I don't really plan an attack with aft torps in mind. Unless I get really lucky and am positioned so that a convoy goes over me and I have targets in front and behind. That is pretty rare though and is still tricky to setup quickly.
If I'm close enough to a target and am out of forward fish I'll go flank speed and spin around, cut speed or all-stop and try to get an aft shot in. If a target is stationary I'll manoeuvre to use the aft tubes in order to keep what I consider my main armament, the forward tubes, for other serious business (i.e. if it's a harbour situation then using the aft tubes allows me to get out of dodge quicker as I'm already pointing toward the 'exit'!! LOL). Finally as already mentioned, the aft tubes are my defensive protection in an extreme emergency when I need to try and strike out at a pursuing warship and I'm out of options!! ![]() |

Actually if it is early on in my patrol I will try to set up for stern shots when possible.
I know that the shots from the stern are far less common and would like to use up those reserves early on. Its easy, just point your stern at the target and solution as usuall. |
