McCain suspends campaign!

This was a real silly move for McCain. The financial crisis is not happening all at once, it's been unfolding for over a year. The numbers he's worried about are poll numbers, and this move might give him the "above politics" shine that he so badly wants and so does not deserve.

Maybe, but at this point people may see it as a move of desperation. Folks in general don't seem to be to happy about bailing out Wall Street.

That's the problem with today's "sound byte" culture. Everyone is looking for the "one cause" of such issues. Well there aint none.

Economics is not that black and white.

It was caused by a combination of actions and inactions by many many people, stretching back decades.

Who is at fault? Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

We all F-ed this up and it is up to all of us to unF this problem.

I like the below analogy in response to this article on the Christian Science Monitor website:

So, Senator McCain wants to suspend the presidential campaign and cancel the debate, huh? Reminds me of the times when I was a kid playing chess with my father, and when I saw I was losing I would “accidentally” overturn the chess board and send the pieces crashing to the floor.

The day McCain presented this desperate publicity stunt of his– in a shameless attempt to yank Senator Obama off the campaign trail and try to grab the political spotlight– was also the same day that, for the first time, Obama had grabbed the lead in a big way for the first time, with 52% of the vote in national polls. Coincidence? I don’t think so….

Couldn't have said it better.

No, I do not agree with this statement by the Christian Science Monitor. Personally, I think Obama likes playing "Campaign". Basically, that is all he has done for years. Obama likes the crowds! From a very cool movie called Gladiator comes, "Win the crowd, win your freedom." For Obama it is win the crowd and win the presidency. Has he really shown such concern and wanting to be a part of the solution to the banking mess or would he prefer to continue to win the crowd? It looks to me like wanting to win the crowd. He needs to get Washington and do what he was elected to do for the state of Illinois. Not get groomed for his next crowd winning speech from the pulpit. Maybe he will show up for vote this time.

You're right, the point I intended to make was that the headline-grabbing credit crunch is not a crisis measured in hours, like something along the lines of 9/11.
