Default Deleting "Lock" button

Hi anyone here.

I hase small problem. I (and my friend PL_CMDR Blue R) trying start multiplayer campaingin in SH3... We almost done mission, upgrades in basic.cfg, and trying change one thing in game...

Delete speed calculation by notepad (next to periscope) and force players to check ship position on map, wait for about 1 min, check new position of target, calculate distance on map and calculate speed.

I know how disactive "L" button on keybord, but I don't know how delete lock button next to fire in periscope...

Can you help me?

Are you looking for realism? Because OLC GUI/Special are very good for realistic targeting and calculating. I don't know how to remove the 'lock' button though but I'm sure there are experienced modders here that may help you, or direct you to someone who can.

I also hate that big unreleastic Lock button. If let me reskin, I will change it small and put it in a little corner. But I don't think disable or remove lock function will add realism, for in real life the caption have officers help them do other things, so he eyes can don't leave the periscope all the time in attack.

I also suggest you try OLC GUI which intergated U-jagd Tools for realism. And try disable map update. In my opinon disable map update add realism but also reduce some realism. Just as I said above, I need take more time to draw in map, these works should be done by officers in real. Time sometimes is critical. If we can display periscope bearing in map that will be helpful and save time, but in my research it seems can't show periscope bearing in other place.

If you really want to disable Lock button, only need change one line in menu_1024_768.ini to move it out of screen.

I play at 100% realism.. So I can't disable auto map update, because it is disable.
And I know that crew help[ captain, but only when ship was on surface. On periscope depth only captain using periscope to attack.

THX, for this info about this file. I shearch, where is that button and drop of...

What I mean is the caption say target bearing, range, AOB and the officer draw it in map and set in TDC. I don't think the caption in conning tower draw map by himself, although he can set the TDC himself.

I agree. The captain keeps his hands on the periscope handles all the time, and keeps it centered on the target. The movement in the game isn't fine enough to let you do this, so the 'Lock' represents that. I think it is very realistic for that reason.

We propably talking about 2 difirent thing. I try say, that you lock target, get distance and AoB, and calculate speed in 10-20 sec is not realistic.
Just this speed calculation. In Sh4 it's better, when you must calculate position in two point, and then is calculation speed.
But, returning to main topic.

I delete lock button, planing change text on empty buttonplace, install few dials from LSH and planing insert in empty buttonplace which normal contains lock button this button, to changing dials form periscope:

I just move it form TDC in menu_1024 file to attack periscope group, but when i try start game i heard <ping> of windows error, I press enter, game is loaded, but I don't have this button in periscope. I knew that it will be in wrong position, but later I will change it... but I don't have it, and propably this error means that something with that is wrong.

Anyone knows how place this button in periscope? Or how create key shortcut that I click (for example) "L", and this button in red sphere will change from manual to automatic update (and from auto to manual)

Why dont ask me?

Sorry friend but I cant send to You my orginal Uboats: Total War files now

Just find in menu LOCK BUTTON and remove this from menu
Next step is

- disable L button

find something like this in menu files:

Key0=0x4C,,"L"


or line with

Key0=0x4C

and remove it. its all

sOnar.. Lock button is disabled.
Now I need change that in place of lock I want place this button with autoupdate TDC/maual update TDC.

be ready to fight with pixels using calculator. i dont know - maybe someone know something about to editing menu button positions? it can be very usefull but i dont have any idea about menu editors

I strongly suggest above 2 of you try OLC GUI with U-jagd Tools first then we discuss later.

By U-jagd Tools method, the speed is calculate by the ship length and the time ship pass the line. It's simple and accurate if AOB is not small. May be it seems not good for you need know the ship length first. But what I can say is if your u-boat don't move, all the parameters you measured is related to the ship dimension you estimated or identified. If your u-boat move, then you may get the solution not depend on ship dimension.

And about the AOB/Ranger finder, in fact it's a slide rule. Just because SH3 limitation so it had to be made to rotate not slide. So use it nothing with cheat. If you use U-jagd Tools method, then you don't need stock game standard 3 step method then you can found there are no necessary to disable the Lock function.

It has nothing to do with SH3 limitations. The real one was round as well.
