Jokes aside, for open source software I buy or download (I have bought in the past several retail linux distributions, suse 8 professional, some flavors of slackware etc...), it doesn't make a very great difference.
For closed source software the situation is a little bit more complex, generally I buy the retail product and then apply drm-free patches if they are available otherwise I don't buy it. On the other hand I stay miles away from any kind of download system, I like owning the product when all is said and done. |
