Naw...as I said I was in the middle of attacking a convoy and getting away... so I don't believe I went to the sonar station.

You're curious? But why?
Now that be a real poser....I can't ever recall anyone ever before asking for justification for anyone's wanting to expand their knowledge and understanding on any subject. Sorry I have no answer for you.

To tell the truth I find it a bit perturbing...especially inlight of your curious curosity.

:hmm: ..I may have found a way to set to zero but I have not experimented with it yet.

In the Dials Config file there is an entry down around 58 or 59 that establishes the Range limits from 11,000 to 220 if I recall correctly.

Could be that changing the 220 to simply zero might work...then it would be as simple as resetting the speed to zero. Maybe not. Maybe I'll give 'er a go when my curosity gets the better of me. But for now I'm off on patrol.

Final Answer to original question:

YES...

I just needed some time to sit down and figure it out. Now what can I do with it that I couldn't before?

My brain space is limited, I can only stuff useful info into it now.

BTW, here's a section from Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" (Sherlock Holmes):
[Holmes'] ignorance was as remarkable as his knowledge. Of contemporary literature, philosophy and politics he appeared to know next to nothing. Upon my quoting Thomas Carlyle, he inquired in the naivest way who he might be and what he had done. My surprise reached a climax, however, when I found incidentally that he was ignorant of the Copernican Theory and of the composition of the Solar System. That any civilized human being in this nineteenth century should not be aware that the earth travelled round the sun appeared to me to be such an extraordinary fact that I could hardly realize it.

“You appear to be astonished,” he said, smiling at my expression of surprise. "Now that I do know it I shall do my best to forget it.”

“To forget it!”

“You see,” he explained, “I consider that a man’s brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose. A fool takes in all the lumber of every sort that he comes across, so that the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out, or at best is jumbled up with a lot of other things, so that he has a difficulty in laying his hands upon it. Now the skilful workman is very careful indeed as to what he takes into his brain-attic. He will have nothing but the tools which may help him in doing his work, but of these he has a large assortment, and all in the most perfect order. It is a mistake to think that that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones.”

“But the Solar System!” I protested.

“What the deuce is it to me?” he interrupted impatiently: “you say that we go round the sun. If we went round the moon it would not make a pennyworth of difference to me or to my work.”

I disagree with Mr. Holmes! Who knows when my mental map of where all the ruins in "Warlords" or my accumulated memories of where the secret doors in "Eye of the Beholder 2" might come in handy? I mean, I might not have any significant need to find the secret in the level where Commander Keen finds the pogo stick just now but who knows what tomorrow will bring?

:hmm: ...doesn't seem to me that your are disagreeing with S.H. in fact just the opposite.

Mr Holmes is saying that knowledge is it's own reward and no knowledge is to be discarded because you do not find it useful.
