Anyone know which sound contains that stupid alarm that never shuts off? Thought I had found it but I didn't.
These are enabled by default in the ship: Ship.NBB_KGeorgeV._mix Ship.NBB_KGeorgeV._hyd Ship._hyd_propeller_5 Ship.NBB_KGeorgeV.Engine and some propeller and wake sounds. I would assume it is in the mix? How can I get it out? Don't know where or how to do a mix. The sound is: Ship.ExtEnemyDetected Ship_Alarm_EXT.wav Peabody

Welcome to the wonderfull world of SH4 Sounds and there controls, or should i say lack their of controls. I have been toying with sounds as well with little of no possitive results.
Depending on what sound your looking for the sound file may be one that has to be removed for all ships. Many ships use the same sounds and there is no way to break them up so far. The sound you may be looking for is Ship_collision_alarm_ext This is the sound that sounds like a blaring siren or whooping noise. It is hard coded as far as i have seen. If you want to get rid of it you need to create a BLANK sound and replace the original with the blank "SAVE the old one first". It seems this sound plays whenever a ship is close to another. Any object so far that has collision nodes seems to cause this sound to play. There are several other alarm sequences that may play. To find out what one it is, make a single mission with just your ship that your questioning, preview it. The alarm for collision should NOT sound. Go back and place your player submarine very close to is and you probably will hear that sound play. I will look for more sounds for you as i continue. Also how did you find out exactly what sounds were played for the ship? I would be very interested in knowing this. Bill Good luck |

The ones in the DSD file are listed above, if it is in a mix and I can't get it out then I will try to work with single sounds, but need to do some studying first. New to sounds. I didn't get time to finish the answer, had to go to son-in-law's birthday. You asked about the sounds. I just got the info I have from the ships .dsd file and then went to sounds and poked around and found the 'alarm' that was the right one. So, if I understand you right the alarm sound in not in with any of these 'mix' files it is hardcoded in the game? So I can't get rid of it by getting rid of the "mix" and just using a engine sound where I need it and so forth. Or do you mean all sounds are hardcoded in the game? I don't know anything about the sound files, I just thought maybe the KGeorge.mix included all the sound used for the ship type such as engine, alarms, collision alarms, ambient noise and stuff like that and maybe I could get rid of the alarm by getting rid of that and just put in the sounds I want. The only reason for this is the alarm never shuts off and the alarm is NOT set to LOOP. I guess being close to enemy ships keeps triggering it. Maybe?? Peabody
