And right you are to mention it. I often find people 'discovering' things or places for the first time, and I always think "SO? I knew about that ages ago!", forgetting that every post gets lost down the list with time. This is especially true of the Online Fleet Submarine Manual http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/ ; every couple of months somebody posts a link with "Look what I found! Aren't you glad I found this for you?"

Discovering things here is like discovering sex - every generation thinks they invented it themselves, not realizing that the previous generation has known about it since THEY discovered it; and the older generation thinks "What a bunch of morons - doesn't everybody know that?"

You just keep right on finding out things, and I'll keep joking about it...and I'll be wrong again.

SH3 is a single player game. "cheating" is a nebulous term at best in such games.

As a method to experiment with "what if" scenarios, I don't see anything wrong with modifying the files.

It is only if you are in competition with others could this "unfair" advantage be considered "cheating"

Is it cheating if you set your realism to 10%? No, it is just playing the game at a different level. Same with modifying the files. Not cheating, just playing the game at a different level.

Now, saying that, I also have to say that if you do modify the files, you can't compare your career with someone who has not modified the files. This is the same as someone who plays stock SH3 and one who plays SH3 with all the cooleo mods - really can't compare careers unless each player is playing the game at the same level.
