You really shouldn't bee looking at your mother in law naked.

it would be more exciting if I simply stuck my head up an elephants bottom.

Don't really see that a 3 thousand year old mummy could be erotic to anyone, maybe interesting scientifically but come on, no ones going to get a chubby looking at that

I really don't think it is about that.

I don't think I'd really give a damn since I've been dead over 3,000 years and dead is dead... I really wouldn't care. Gawk away. It's kind of strange that you'd even look at a mummy's private quarters.

We had an interesting case here in SA over Sara Baartman. She was from the Hottentot tribe and was paraded around Europe 200 years ago because of her large buttocks and labia. When she died the French bottled and preserved these parts of her anatomy and put them on public display in one of their museums.

Given that, I think the mummy got off lightly.

"The remains of an African woman who was paraded around Europe as a freak and scientific curiosity have been handed back to the South African Government in a symbolic gesture of reconciliation by France. The skeleton and bottled organs of Saarti Baartman - who was known as the "Hottentot Venus" for her pronounced buttocks and genitals - were handed over to the South African ambassador in a ceremony in Paris on Friday, ending a long battle for her return."

No wonder citizens are leaving in droves. The UK is going off the deep end.

I agree with Letum. These are people. At the very least cover up the pelvic area.

Sorry, mate, these are people. No repect for the dead? You would probably not feel that way if it was your family member. Then again, I do not know how twisted your mind might be.

No...you do not agree with me.

Read my replies more carefully.
I do not want them covered up. I think there is a very fine balance to be made and
arguments for covering them should not just be dismissed. Any corpse should be
treated with respect, but I think we can achieve that respect with out covering them up.

The ideal situation for me would be some kind of briefing to emphasise the need to respect
the corpse like medical students get before a human dissection.

I don't know what the museam has in place already.

It is a sad fact that the remains of these people have been treated as a freak show in the past.

I'm agreeing with you that these are people. Covering up at least the pelvic area are my own thoughts. This was my thought to achieve the level of repect without covering completely. Covering them up entirely defeats the purpose of study of mumification.

Not to mention the purpose of a museum display, I mean, you might as well put a block of aluminum there and say that it's a mummy...

I think I agree with covering them up partially...
