Default T I (g7a)

As the topic indicates, this thread is based on gas torpedo. We all know its disadvantage of leaving a trail of bubble. However we can switch the speed while launching it. However, using a torpedo would be very hard to play with it. The moment the ship spot the torpedo, it can turn, and so we can miss the vital spot of the ship! So do you think switching the torpedo speed would affect the results???

Hi!

I usually use electric torpedoes, but when I'm running low on those I will move steam-powered torpedoes from on-deck storage into the torpedo rooms. Once I'm using the steam torpedoes then I try to use them at night, when ships cannot see the bubble trail.

I shoot steam torpedoes at maximum speed from minimum range, so if the ship does see the torpedo then the ship does not have as much time to react.

Agreed, I only fire steam powered eels at night or within 700m at fast (45kts) as they can not avoid a center shot under the keel unless it's faulty.

Im going to be the oddball and say that so far, I prefer the TIs over the TII. Ive had the TIIs detonate in the water before they actually hit the target vessel. This alerted the whole taskforce to my presence. Ive also run into 3 TIIs being bad or exploding when I was making a highspeed run on a convoy. Both of these happened back while I was playing the "real uboat mod v1.4"... since then Ive had a problem with trusting them.

I always try and have a mix. The TII's I find are more prone to premature detonation - especially in extreme seegang conditions. I try and load 50/50 in my fore tubes so I have a choice. My stern tubes are always with the TII's so a sneaky parting shot at Angry Ivan are almost impossible to detect at any time of the day or night.

I've almost never had an ambushed ship dodge a steam torpedo. That's very hard to do in real life. The bigger problem is that it leaves a trail for any escort to follow back. I've used T1s for 80% of my 600,000 tons of sinkings, and only use TIIs when the TIs are out or when I'm attacking a convoy and every bit of stealth helps. In my IXB I load 60/40 I/II, with Tubes 1,3,&5 Type Is, and Tubes 2,4,&6 Type IIs. No complaints about that so far!

From 39 to early 41 I use the T1 day or night, mid 41 on wards I only use them at night. As for the T2 I only use them in the stern tubes from 41 on wards with a mix of T1's.
