A more restricted free cam has been one of my pet peeves for years now.

ONLY.. i wanted it a bit more restrcted then what you suggest. I wanted it so that you could not use the camera to see what was on the surface while submerged - in other words, restrict its height as well, and confine it to the area near the player sub.

I spent alot of time on this, and nearly suceeded. In the end, i threw in the towel. My conclusion was that the camera.dat file, seems merely to define parameters, but certain aspects of cameras behavior, is defined elsewhere. I could be mistaken in that, but i tried for days and the results were marginal.

This is what I meant. Just didn't word it correctly. If you can see the surface while submerged it would defeat the whole purpose. Good to know you've tried at least. We can't have it all.

Self discipline is hard when SH4 has created such a great engine to view the environment with. For the time being I'll press on....cooped up in my sub....not knowing what the hell is going out outside.

While I was playtesting the soon-to-arrive Pacific Enviroments 2, I had to play a few missions with that mod disabled (the damn Special Effects are putting up a fight!); I thought I had accidentally dropped a bottle of bleech on the monitor! Once you've ran one of those mods, there's no turning back...
