I own a couple of Edward Beach books Submarine being one of them have read it twice. Great novel. Also the more well known one RSRD, and another good read is 'Around the world submerged' about the voyage of the Nuclear powered submarine USS Triton captained by Beach.

Last few days ive been reading 'Night of the Uboats' by Paul Lund & Harry Ludlam this time its the Merchantmen story, pretty grim reading.

Unbroken by Alastair Mars D.S.O. D.S.C and Bar. Good read.

From the back cover:
Alastair Mars took command of the new submarine Unbroken in 1942. During the following year of service in the Mediterranean, Unbroken took part in four secret operations, sank over 30,000tons of enemy shipping and survived some 400 depth charges. Perhaps her greatest achievement was the part she played in the attack on twelve enemy warships, crippling two of them-both heavy cruisers.

Unbroken is the proud story of valour and heroism under the dangerous waters of the Mediterranean. Its author was one of the most brilliant submarine commanders of the last war.
