How did you do it? I ALWAYS sink one, but by the time my torpedo tubes are reloaded there's no way I can get back within their limiting lines of approach without surfacing and exposing myself to gunfire and aircraft.

You might want to consider sending 3 fish into two large targets to slow them down and get them burning/listing. That should buy you some time to swing the stern around and maybe finish them off.
