Default WTH!!!!!

Does anyone have any idea of how to make carriers attack surface targets when members of a task force? I've tried several times to add an air station to the carrier, then when the air planes are launched they crash into the sea after a few minutes What good is a carrier if it either cannot attack at all or it's planes just head directly into the water like a super sonic torpedo.

Has anyone tried this?

Are you sure you didn't accidentally put Flutogs on the carier instead of airplanes ?

Air operations are not something that DW does very well, unfortunately. Personally, whenever I do anything that involves serious air operations I use Harpoon. Dangerous Waters is good for putting up a few aircraft but as far as cycling aircraft and the more long term aspects of air operations it's just not very good.

@Black Light

yeah they behave a bit like that! The super étendard flutog ! haa :rotfl:

@ Sea queen

And long term aspects are exactly what I need another DC like game when it comes to carrier ops.

You'd be much more successful placing the aircraft into the scenario directly (including by a spawn at a time of your choosing) than letting the aircraft launch from a carrier. The VTOL carriers are particularly attrocious.

@Molon Labe

Yes, I understand your point, but the problem is that I want the carrier to respond to a threat in a dynamic invironment. I hate scripted missions so I try to set up a totally dynamic mission around a carrier group and it was my impression that it was actually possible to have a carrier reacting "normally" to a sudden incoming air threat for example......but appearently not ......it's not even possible to set up a CAP around the carrier group that will work. Instead the planes crash into the sea and if/when the carrier group is then attacked there are no planes left

Now I don't think you're giving the sim enough credit. I can't stand scripted missions either.

My experience with dealing with aircraft carriers in DW is that you have to consider the time span of the scenario. I've made missions with aircraft carriers that lasted a few hours and worked well. They included aircraft. They're only really a problem when they have to keep cycling aircraft up and down.

If I wanted my game to consist of a model of a long-range ASCM raid against at carrier strike group operating in the opened ocean, then I don't need more than a few hours of aircraft coverage because the whole battle will be fought and over.

DW is actually a tough game to develop good scenarios for, because you've got to really understand exactly what the scenario is trying to capture.

@ sea queen

:hmm: ......yes........ I'm not reluctant to admit that I don't always fully understand how to use the mission editor, actually I'm quite a bungler especially at triggers

anyway :hmm: .......what about landbased aircrafts, do they behave the same way?
