Not true on both accounts. Some whale species are endangered, some critically so (like the Northern Right Whale). Others, like the Minke Whale, are not endangered, and in fact are quite common. I'd like to point out that it is the Minke Whale is the one that is most commonly hunted, and there are about 184,000 of them. The current quota for Minke set by the IWC is about 1,000 a year. The current population can easily sustain that level of hunting. Other species that were endangered have made remarkable comebacks, like the Pacific Gray Whale. I don't have much of a problem with hunting whales per se, myself. From my perspective as a hunter, whales are just another species. You mileage obviously varies on the subject, and I can certainly respect that. However, if it is going to be done, I'm sure that you would agree with me that it should be done in a manner that is regulated and sustainable (ie., don't kill the endangered species, quotas that maintain growth for the species that are hunted). Would you rather it be done within a regulated international framework that attempts to protect the species that really need protection, or that it go back to the bad old days of unregulated factory whaling? To kind of guide this back on topic, I can't WAIT to try GWX2. I'll be sure and hide my harpoons, lances, and flensing knives when you visit my boat. ![]() Edited to soften the language somewhat, and to be more like my (I hope) reasonable self.
