Distance and bad weather can sometimes mess up creditation of a sinking. It occasionally happens, its a leftover bit of behavior from Sh3.

I've also had a ship I've been pummeling suddenly vanish from all sensors, even though I can torpedo it, run up to it and bump my nose into it and sink it. I end up with no credit either. It's happened twice. That's JANAC for you!
