When they first announced the add-on didn't they say they wanted to release it in January/February?
Don't get me wrong I think it would be better if it would be released in April. It would give the devs more time to get rid of bugs etc. |

They released this:
"Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions". This add-on is scheduled to be released in Spring 2008 and will add a number of additional features to the game, including a German Campaign in the Indian Ocean, new resources and submarines to use, as well as Hero crewmembers! Below are some of the details: German Campaign in the Indian Ocean: The new campaign spans from July 1943 until end of war, in May 1945. Players will operate from such far off Japanese naval bases as Penang, Singapore, Jakarta and Surabaya. Strategic Warfare: As the player rises in rank and experience he gains access to new strategic resources such as recon aircraft that track down enemy shipping and even battle groups that can help wipe out superior enemy forces. New Playable Submarines: Take to the seas in the long range Type IX-D2 U-boat and the revolutionary Walther propulsion type XVIII U-boat. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of these boats and how you can overcome even elite late war allied destroyers with high speed hit and run attacks. Heroes: Based on actual historical figures, these new crewmembers add a number of special abilities that can change the fate of battle and save the ship when the time is right, as well as adding historical color to the game. -------------------------- I don't think you'll see it before April. |

Considering the fact that work on the Add On started back in the Summer of 07, that would give the Add On more development time than the game, which was only allocated 11 months!
![]() I think you'll see it in April. |

That much time and effort, its not going to be a "patch" by any means. Im more curious about how its going to intergrate itself into the current game. Some of the files are totally opposite, (US vs German TDC for example). Im thinking it's going to be a standalone addon, or some files like the dials.cfg and menu.ini file are going to be honking huge!
Oh wait.. and then theres the whole roster thing. Can't have germans as friendly and hostile at once. Other subtle problems most people wont realize.. is the current mission system. When scripting some Subron50 missions , i found that past a certain point eastward, the game woudlnt acknowledge any mission scriptings at all, it was really, odd. Instant i moved the mission a few grid sqaures west, it worked. Theres going to be alot of small, sublte, really stick it to the modder issues. So im really wondering if its a standalone, or intergrated. God help us all if its intergrated. |

I've come to the conclusion that it maybe a separate exe file which will a run separate shell but at the same time, share certain files. For example the campaign files are ready to go in as far sharing and loading while using the U-Boat addon goes. As for the menu.ini, it's basically a referencing file, there's no reason why it can't be created to point to some SH4 files while using new U-Boat Addon created files aswell. End of the day, I think it will be one install location with two exe's/shortcuts. Click this one for that and the other for the other. ![]() Time will tell.

Sold!
I can't wait to see what they've pulled off here. Whatever it is, the screenshots I've seen have been compelling. I have to spend the money just to see their hand!
![]() And to play with U-Boats in the Atlantik, you'll probably have to have it.
