Popups still open with Firefox

Give Opera a try, While you still will get an occasional popup i dont recall them ever being as numerous as they were when using IE or firefox.

I tried Opera and actually still have it. While it has some features I like, I like Firefox's features better. Opera's Speed Dial is an awesome feature, though.

Strange, I have FF and havent seen a popup since I got it.


Try the adblock plugin is you havent got it.

I use both IE and FF and have never had a problem. Might I suggest you d/l a pop up blocker for whichever programme your using.

Maybe a silly question: have you gone to options\content\check button to block popup windows (also check the exceptions).

FF user here. Only ever had one or two sites open a 'popup' through FF (break.com etc)

As I have already said, the popups are being blocked - initially. If I click anywhere on the page that they were blocked on like a link or even blank space the popup appears. This started happening ever since 2.0 was released or maybe even a bit before. All I know is, is that this has been happening for a long time. This has happened on my old Windows ME computer and my current Windows XP computer (I have reinstalled and formatted the HD twice since I got it).

Like I said, Ad-Block makes Firefox crash on me for some reason. I liked Ad-Block but the increased crashes outweigh the positives of Ad-Block. Firefox just becomes to unreliable.

There ya go - Ad-Block is pretty good. I use it too.

Also plug in Privoxy if you want ultimate control over what your browser displays. Its default config works well, but it is so open to customization, it will make your head spin.

You can also use it to modify things on the fly as you visit web pages - Just for fun, say every time your browser returns Snoop Dogg for example, you can make your browser replace those words with Snoop "The Murderer" Dogg! An included example is in the fun settings where it changes things like Microsoft to M$. You can kill flash, popups, animations, anything you feel like.

It will also control what is outbound from your browser. I can make my browser report any data I want to a particular website. For instance, I may be using Linux at any particular time, but I can report to the website that I am using Windows. Basically, it puts you in control of what information external sites can have about you.

Best of all, it is multithreaded so you will overpower other people downloading from a particular site by hitting the same site 10+ times, counting as 10+ users vs others simple single threaded browser. As I type this, it is through Privoxy.
