Deck guncrew just wont open fire!!!

Have you got the watch officer to set the deck gun to fire at will? Or you can attack a target by using your binoculars and pressing spacebar when centred on the target so your gun crew will fire at it.

i think your problem is the menu to the side of the watch officer...if your firing at will but the range is set wrong in the menu..the guns wont fire even at order of "fire at will" make sure if your target is close range...set click the "fire at close range" part of the menu....hope this helps

Will they open fire if the target is within a certain rane. Ex if I select long range do they open fire upon targets in close range?

They will fire at the nearest target unless you click on the icon for warship or hit the spacebar whilst looking through your binoculars at the tergat of your choosing.

dont know if its the same problem i had ...but i was ordering my watch officer to "fire at will" upon a merchant at say 800m...and nothing was happening, but if i took control of the deck gun myself there was no problem....then i noticed the menu at the side of the watch officer when you click on him-then deck gun- the range was medium...as soon as i set this to close range the guns fired.....i dont know exactly when close range goes to medium then long range but i assume close range to be 1-1000m...so anything over set the menu to medium then long
