What SC/DW needs is a few illustrated AARs which capture the strategic/tactical aspects of the game and excitement of game play. Despite the improved graphics in DW over SC, neither of the two are going to excite anyone who plays SH3 or SH4.
And yet what SH3/4 players like over older titles like AOD and SHCE is the ability to take the hydrophones themselves and listen in order to work out what contacts are doing. They prefer this over the simplistic lines/tracks that earlier games had. Also, they prefer taking a target and working out the targetting solution for it as opposed to earlier titles that just gave an auto solution and a measure of how good your hit chances would be. Well, if that's what people like (besides the 3D world), then SC/DW gives sonar/TMA/fire control stations which require serious analysis and skills. SC/DW aren't just advancements in situation awareness flavor and atomosphere, they are the real deal in that station work is how you interact and engage the world. For SH3/4, it is only TDC where the player is really forced into station work as opposed to just enjoying atomosphere enhancements over earlier titles. So, it is serious station play where SC/DW shines ... not in graphics/sound. Additionally, for those who like station play besides making it central to the game, SC/DW stations generally have superior UI. SH3/4 went overboard with 3D and the interactive crew. The 2D of SC/DW works much better for clean and crisp station interactions than SH3/4.

In honor of our Cold War discussions and close tracking of Soviet subs without being counter detected, here is close track. (SC 1.08 stock scenario)
As I said before, "it's the stations, Dummy". The stations aren't atomosphere here. Instead they are life and death. Beautifully rendered in glorious 2D. ![]() ![]() ![]()
