Yes the big E should have been saved. There was, at the time, a lot of public upset at the decision to have her scrapped IIRC. There were some vessels saved from the wartime RN most notably HMS Belfast which is now a museum ship (run by the Imperial War museum) on the Thames in London. Apart from that there is a destroyer and a frigate still extant AFAIK. The frigate is currently owned by Egypt, plans are afoot to purchase her for the nation.

But overal considering Britain's naval past its not much to have survived.

BTW Belfast is execellent and well worth a visit if any of you ever plan on going to London.
