Default Agent Insertion??

Hey, first time posting on forums...

Having some difficulties, HQ wanting me to insert an agent in some godforsaken village thats 5nms from a naval base, now not that thers alot of patrols or anything.. its just the waters just deep enough for me to stay at PD. That however is the least of my problems.. there seems to be a junk from hell that seems to know exactly where I am and is intent on running me down..

Now when I do surface to insert the agent, i either come under shore fire or a gunboat miraculously appears out of no where, not only that, when I make a run for the deeper channel (400ft depth), i run into a sub chaser thats patrolling on the other side of the bay, now I've tried every thing :making a run at flank at PD to the channel, going 1/3 to the channel getting under thermals (there are sadly no thermals), going southward in shallow water at 1/3.

Every time i am picked up by the subchaser in shallow waters and am unable to run and hide plus the suckers stay just too close for torpedoes.

So, should i just abort the insertion.. or can i somehow manage to pull it off??

Sugesstions would be greatly appreciated

When in your career is this? do you have radar so you can detect the attacking surface craft? if so stay out of visual range and watch his patrol pattern, you may be able to find a suitable gap in which to get in and deploy the agent.
I think that your radar should also give you locations for shore batteries. I would strongly suggest attempting the mission at night,
It helps to be at a complete stop before you deploy the agent as for some reason his rubber raft scraps along your boat and sounds like the rusty gates of hell being opened. You do need to be surfaced for the launch of the raft.
Go in slow and if possible semi-submerged to reduce any visual profile.

good luck

It's a bit dangerous, but subchasers don't have guns except on their bows, if you can come up behind them, and then just start pumping deck gun shells into them, and then try to stay directly behind them, you might be able to get away with sinking them that way.

it'd probably take quite a bit of luck or a lot of skill, or some combination of both, but it's possible.

i was unable to use radar as the entired bay was covered by gunboats, shorebatteries and a subchaser. however a storm had passed so vis. acquisition was hard for both the intruder and the.. intruded?. So i had to relie on sound and (very few) visuals.

thanks for suggestions, finally got through with it, crawled up at 1kt to withing 100yrds of shore, dropped him off, bagged the subchaser and ran for the channel, meanwhile all hell is breaking loose above. Three Medium Gunboats had seen the comotion and headed for my periscope after the explosions, thank the lord they have no DCs!. Luck seemed to be with me that night however, as a convoy of 4 Tankers and 2 Medium Modern Composites was forming waiting for escorts, needless to say i bagged 2 of the Tankers and both of the Freights befor i was forced to submerge by a Minekaze(?) , dodged the DD for the next 4 hours and finally broke surface 24 hrs after the insertion, Radioed HQ and was told to patrol off Honshue!. Needless to say I said scrw it and returned to port.

Now I recieved a medal, some Renown and a lot of promotions and medals for my crew.

as said above, i made it, and again as said above, shore guns+gunboats+subchasers, do NOT mean anything good for a submarine..

(not meaning to be disrespectful either, as you seem to be a good Captain)

You have to do it at night. There's no question about it -- you must time the insertion for night.

What you do is plot a course for the location, making sure you steer around main convoy and patrol routes. These should be obvious -- most of the time, they go right down the deepest part of the channel or harbour.

This will give you an estimated time to each waypoint. Now it's just a matter of controlling your speed so that you pull into the area around 11pm. I always like to be able to give the agent at least a few hours of darkness, instead of pulling in there at 7am and he's got to make a run for his cover.

You'll need to allow for slow running on batteries during the approach. Once you make the insert, flog the hell out of it to get back to deep water. You'll still need to be careful that you use 2/3's speed until you get out of visual range of any artillery, but after that, you do 19kts on your escape route.

Your escape route might be different than your approach route. During escape, I usually get out into the middle of the channel doing full speed, so I'm completely out of visual range of the coastal batteries. Don't be afraid to dive and change course if you blunder into a convoy or something. Running at 8m (deck awash) is one tactic to be able to stay on the surface while evading a patrol or convoy, but use it very carefully.

Thanks all for the great posts, I believe the village in which i must make the insertion is called Ishigake, the deepest area of the channel is around 400ft deep and 2nm wide, going up another 150ft to a second plateau of around 3 nm on each siide, the closest "deep" area is around 100ft deep and is 1nm wide on both sides of channel, after tht its just about deep enough to stay at PD.

Using said tactics above (stormy, night, [is there a high tide in this game?], deckwash as well as no radar as to alert the enemy to my location) I suceeded, however I noticed that shore based artillery can hit you at deckwash during the early hours of the morning (1-3am).

Thanks for all suggestions,

Krauter

I´m reading a book (one of our submarines , edward young)
where a british submarine during an agent extraction fall in a ambush, with heavy machine gun fire and guns ,incoming from the shore .

it makes an idea how difficult and dangerous these actions were. and more the recover, if the agents are captured by enemy.
