We got to find a way to get repairs to our boats when stuck out at sea like that. Not to bring the whole "fuel" argument up, but I once ran out of fuel 30 nm from Midway and was forced to re-load from my last save which was on the other side of the ocean. Either way, I was hosed (even from the save). Apparently I had a hole in my diesel fuel tank from a battle 3 saves ago. That's frustrating!

Any modders know whether a button for sea rescue is possible?

Something along the lines of push the button and a "distress signal" is sent to base, the screen goes to a splash screen and then after a brief screen telling the tale of how your crew survived the ordeal of waiting it out in the ocean for X number of days while a "tug" made it's way to recover the boat and crew.

Then bang you're in your office at base and can carry on again.

You know I'm not a modder Snuffy but here's a thought. It might only be possible if they had the game SDK. But again hopefully someone might be able to do it. Put a request in in a separte thread in the SH4 Mod Forum. You'll find out one way or the other.
