U-24, IID, at sea during her 17´th patrol in The Black Sea.
It´s now mid June -44 and The Crimean is lost to the Russians and the Red Army is knocking on Romania's borders. One of these days we will be met by Russian soldiers when we get back to Konstanza:hmm:

November '39 - U-46 about 150kms off the coast of northern Spain and entering the Bay of Biscay after patrolling BE99. Expended 12 torpedoes for a mere 18,000 GRT. Plenty of lone merchants, but mainly small fry. Intend to plot a course through the bay heading in a northerly direction in the hope of encountering some more French merchants then home to Wilhelmshaven.

I was out of port, but I am in heaven now; Albrecht Brandi and all hands on
U-94 were lost during a totally unnecessary attack on the harbor of Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen.

Another KaLeun will leave port tonight!

Further to the above, sea state is foul and decide to submerge to 25 metres for a few hours and let my sound man earn his money. After a while he picks up three medium speed merchants that are closing. Plot an intercept and discover a large merchant followed by two small freighters all belonging to France. Doesn't take much to decide which ship is going to get my penultimate torp. Fire my torp at 450m and watch it impact its bow area. Large merchant slows a couple of knots and starts to settle by the bow. Meanwhile they have started zig-zagging and I decide which of the small freighters is going to get my last torp. Fire at a range of 850m but it turns away soon after firing and I miss. Nevermind the large merchant is going down and my tonnage total has gone up to 29,000 GRT. Now plotting a course for home.
