I'm not trying to brag here but I hate it when mine falls below 60fps. I've seen others playing games with fps similar to your own and their perfectly happy about it. 12fps sounds a little low to be enjoyable though. The other thing is you'll notice your cursor either gliding smoothly across the screen or dragging as your fps falls.

Turn all graphics options off to begin with. Set the minimum resolution your happy with, then add one effect at a time. Play ten minutes or so, if it's still smooth enough add another etc. Also, if you show your fps at the top of the screen sometimes the number will rise or fall (even though the games paused) as you change the options. The two effects options I find it hardest to live without is the full screen glare and the high quality textures.

Hope that helps.

turn off 3D wakes, they are not so important and you'll get about 2 or 3 fps more.

Also, do all your testing stood on the bridge view facing forward and down since that (for some bizarre reason) seems to cause the most drag on the system when out at sea.

Change the texture and mipmap settings in *your graphics card setup* outside the game more to "performance" than "quality". It might start looking too crappy for you on some of the 3D stations in the boat though, such as the sonar station (but you will still have the digital readout if the bearing lines lose some of their sharpness).

Seems acceptable if you consider that film is shot at 24 fps although that system should be capable of a bit more

a film/movie works in a different way, in a game every frame is like a stroboscobic light, no panning, and you need of 40fps at least to see it absolutely smooth.
Anyway SH4 at 20 or 25 fps is good enough because the ships are not like airplanes, they are very slow! just some problems with huge explosions, but nothing serious.

What a pity, this game looks much worse than SH3 IMHO (especially water and crew,
very ugly crew :-) and low FPS is just immersion killer............

Best Regards

One that is acceptable to you and allows smooth game play.

You cannot put a finite number on it.

Indeed.

Í have an older PC (about 2 years old) but am still capable of running this game with 60 - 100FPS if I want to depending on my settings.

My Spec's:
_ Asus P4P 800 E Dlx 800FSB
_ Asus ATi radeon X800 PRO TVD
_ 1.5Gg DaneElec dual 400FSB
_ Intel P4 3.2
_ 250Gg SATA 16mb cache
(3 partitions with D drv as my proggie and game drv with SF set to
1536 - 3072 to it. C is my OS and hardware drv's only at 45 Gg. rest is just data.
_ Plantronics Game Com PRO 1 (have older Audigy ZS but don't use it)
_ Screen resolution 1024 x768 75Hz (Phillips V190 19”)
_Win XP PRO

Game settings:

All but the V-Sync checked to the right side.

Ship 3d damage half Terrain objects density 1/3 (Mostly as sea so)
Character detail full Terrain object LOD size half
Particle density 2/3

All others un-checked.

Mod’s installed:
Ducimus TM 1.4 with GFX installed
Leovampire Living breathing ocean
Anvart R&L periscope fix
Capt. Kobuk Torpedoes 25% more powerful (nothing to do with FPS)
Capt.Cox CBS News (ditto)

With those settings and Mod’s I get 70 outside, 60 with periscope, 100 inside and 120 in map modes.

I play the game with the same settings as above but also have:
Post Process filter checked
Full scene glare checked
Environmental effects checked

With these settings and Mod’s I get 50 outside, 70 inside (fluxes a lot between 50 and 80), 45 with periscope and 100 in map modes.

How do I get these FPS'es….

Well it’s simple actually, I close or stop every thing next to the clock with NAV being the biggest memory eater. This gives me a 100% increase of FPS!!!
(This came from a thread on this forum so no credit to me for typing it here. Can’t remember his Nickname but Thx…

I could stop IExplorer.exe (how to, on this forum aswell) and others in the task manager but I don’t need to as far as I’m concerned.

It’s all about fine tuning your system, for older PC’s it takes a bit more work but with high end PC’s it’s all about the right drivers and fine tuning the VD-card.

Side Note:
When you buy a new PC pleeeeeaaaase check if the hardware is compatible.
You can buy a 1600000000FSB mobo with every thing on it for all I care but when the other hardware isn’t compatible by having 1 part only capable of doing 8000FSB your PC is going to run at that speed leaving the rest… well....doing nothing.
Same goes for the VD-Card.

Your PC is always going to be as fast as the slowest part and there’s nothing you can do about it other then replace the slowest part of course.

This is my dream machine.
http://www.alienware.com I customised one and came to $7800

A man can dream can’t he?

I have tried everything possible without spending money to get better fps . Overclocking via software the graphics card , changing settings , uninstalling , cleaning , defraging etc etc . I have come to the conclusion that apart from disabling volumetric fog the only thing that can get me more fps is a better graphics card .

P.S. The layer of dust that i removed from between the cpu and the aluminium cpu heatsink helped to stabilize my system .
