Train wrecking was routine work for RN subs in the Med. Gun action was favourite but landing parties were also used. A good wreck on an Italian costal railway would block the line for a week and deprive German forces in North Africa of about 100,000 tons of supplies.
Not knocking the Barb or the USN but it was nothing new.
