The Japanese had their own version of Morse to account for their unique syllable based language. I've talked to some ex-FRUPAC (Fleet Radio Unit PACific, the guys tasked with intercepting Japanese signals in WWII) on ham radio about it. There were something like 50+ individual characters they had to learn.

I'm a radio amateur..et al..a Ham.Callsign AB7AG.I haven't been active the last few years so my Morse skills are rusty.I concur with the word contact and numbers being sent by the skivvy wavers on the tincans.I must say this,it is very hard for me to read the blinks versus hearing the code.Morse code was an international method of communication.Seems I recall anoher version of morse code that differed somewhat, but the years have robbed me of all the details. My inability to read the blinking morse very well has made me decide to go back to being more active in hamming, and since I just retired,I will have the time for it.I must say the blinking code by escorts was a nice touch by the devs.

yeah, it is cool that the put it in, but it's drawback is that it gives the DDs position away in fog/rain . i've not seen any skivvy wavers, tho

I'm not THAT old. But I must admit that I got upset when my Andrews Sisters tape got eaten in my car's tape player...

Nah, it was a cassette. The only 8 tracks I have left are Kiss Destroyer and Alice Cooper Goes to Hell.

I have a bunch of Iron Maiden on vinyl, though.
