What, Steve? You mean you don't regard your home as your U-boat?? I'm shocked!
Me, I'm always busy on my boat, while listening for reports from my crew. I wonder if this means my girlfriend is BdU?

Let's see... I don't see her for long stretches of time... she transmits orders frequently by wireless... Hmmm...

"Return to Base!"
"Jawohl!"

I try to play most of the tactical parts in Real Time. But I cruise at 1024 until I get to my patrol area.

Another "You've Been Playing SH3 Too Long" Moment:

While on patrol I was tidying up in the galley, I mean kitchen, and heard a loud buzzing in the air. My first thought: "FLUGZEUG! ALAAARRRM!!!"

It was just a big fly -- but I swear it sounded just like a Hurricane!

Reminds me of when in "Das Boot" (uncut) the lookout Dufte calls for a crash dive, and it turns out it was probably a bird!

I suppose the fair thing to do would be to play in real time but catch up with time compression the time you spent far from your PC, so every real life day is a game day....:hmm: A one month patrol per real month of life does not sound bad at all, specially if you consider that you will "skip" the 28 days in base...or will you be able to be without playing SH3 28 days while your U-Boot is virtually refitted?

Does the fatigue model work correctly, if you start a real time career?

I'm looking forward to start a RT career in about three weeks, when I have more time to play SH3.
Already got me some seaweed and a canister of MDO (marine diesel oil), just for authenticity.
Also trained my cockatiel (small parrot) to imitate seagulls.

Anything I forgot?

I haven't done careers this way but some patrols. I don't do it all the time but sometimes it's fun. You pick up a lot of contacts.

If you use GWX 8-hour fatique model, yes.

@Flakmonkey:

I can picture it: you reading a big novel about torpedoes or something for two days, feet on your desk, then suddenly: "SCHIFF GESICHTETT!" You're so surprised you throw your book in the air and literally dive to your computer :rotfl:

But I have to admit, this is the best way to simulate the life of those crewmen. Doing all kinds of things to escape the boring days, then suddenly action all over the place.

I admire you and I envy you

:rotfl: "I'm shocked! SHOCKED, to find gambling in this establishment!"...oops, wrong genre. No, my life is filled with reading biographies, histories and comic books, as well as games. I also don't play combat flight sims in real time; waiting two hours for those bad nasty Germans to try to take advantage of my poor B-17s is just too much for an old fart like me.

As for your girlfriend being BdU, I wouldn't take the chance; just do as you're told and hope for the best. On the other hand, I don't think Onkel Karl would take too kindly to being told "Yes, dear."
