Steve, that's you on the fifty in your av, innit? I don't know where I remember thinking that.

I was actually considering the fact that the large guys always break in half, but never any further than that, and was curious about that as far as SHIII goes. I've seen the smaller merchies break in half more often as well, though DDs seem to race to the bottom fairly intact, I've also seen them roll before disappearing.

When it comes to warships rolling over, I was thinking of the ex-Hamilton, WPG-34, rolled over and hung about on the surface for quite awhile before disappearing. She took a single torp on the fireroom bulkhead seperating the fireroom from the engine room, so they not only lost any motive power, they also lost all electricity, so damage control efforts were significantly hampered. It's my understanding that the captain believed the ship could be saved, even with the power loss, which was why they tried towing her towards Iceland. Evidently, a storm in the area rolled the ship over, which was (obviously) fatal.

That was where my brain started with the OPs question; the rest followed from that. Hey, what can I say? I needed more coffee.
Yeah, that's me, way back when. A big version is in the sticky thread on member biographies in the General Topics forum. As for breaking up and turning turtle, I was of course speaking of what should be expected, not what happened in every case. There was a lot of variety and I'm sure that one of everything had one thing or the other happen at least once.

I thought I remembered that; I remember first docking here when SHIII was released... your post count wasn't quite as high as it is now.

I get you; I wasn't trying to make the Hamilton's story into a generalization, but I guess I kinda made it look that way. I think we're in accord with the statement: "The reality was different than the game."

I missed my roll over ships, can anyone make a mod to change the damage model so all ships can roll over mostly, not sink bow or stern down?

What you really want to watch for is the ones that roll over, but are only playing dead.

Mod the zones.cfg file then.

The in-game engine allows every vessel to sink in any way....but visual experience would suggest the 'roll over' method is one of the least seen

It mostly happens with Battleships and cruisers that they tend to roll over
