Over in "tornado alley" in the US, there are companies that are selling half-containers as tornado shelters. They take a container, cut it in half, weld a door on the open side and put in a vent, then bury that sucker in your yard. Sometimes moored in concrete to give it a bit of weight and added protection. Mostly leak proof if you keep the inside either painted or coated.
I've been thinking about getting one for several years. The funny thing is it can be used as a dipole antenna with just a bit of work, bringing in really outstanding radio (possibly television) reception during said storms. |

I have a 20 footer shipping container at my place in Maine. For the cost ($2100 delivered) it's far above a comparable wood or steel shed, and I can move it if i have to...
