Default Napoleonic Strategy?

I'm looking for a good Napoleonic strategy game. You know, with muskets, cannons, lines of troops and whatnot. Thing is I'd much like it to be like the Total War series, any suggestions?

Well, there is a Napoleonic Total War mod for Medieval: Total War, as well as a 2.0 version for Rome: Total War (which unlike the MTW mod does not include campaign, only battles, but is rather good for MP).

It's really well-done actually:

My friend has my Rome. I'm having lotsa' fun with Medieval II though. I'm just wishing for a game nearly identical (if not done by the TW team with the TW engine) to TW, but with strategies and weapons from 1700-1860's. Why is it that no one's ever picked this idea up? To me it seems as if it would be a smash! Besides, I cannot play MP. Karl Radtgaeb = one heck of a coward.

I have it, it's pretty fun, the campaign can ge really hard at times, It plays like RISK with RTS battle. I love the re-enactor battle footage!

Default HistWar: Les Grognards

There's also HistWar: Les Grognards, a Napoleonic era 3D tactical and stategic game (still in development). It's being developed by a small developer and published by Battlefront.com.

If interested, there's a link here, and another here.

My vote goes to Cossacks 2! Great game! Captures the mood of the time quite well in battle, stay in line and take the bullet if it comes for you. Take cover and you are a coward.

Today, after three days of hard fighting, the British Army surrendered to the Imperial Russian Army. Now Russia controls all of Napoleonic Europe:rotfl: .

I love the multi-meadia footage in this game, it's first rate! I would love to see a Napoleonic re-enactment.

For my money The Lordz Group ( mentioned above by CCIP)have produced the finest Napoleonic battle sim with their NapTotal War 2 based on Rome TW. It's purely a battle simulator with no resourse management ( which suits me ) . Its ideal mode is in MP because of a shortcoming with the RTW engine - it's necessary to manually disable the skirmish mode of both armies before you start. The Artwork is outstanding .

IMHO the whole project is in a similar league to the excellent WW1 flightsim mod OFF (for CFS3).

Hmmm. Well, I was looking a bit more into Imperial Glory (I thought the demo was cool) and it seems that the reviews are incredibly mixed (ranging from mediocre to Excellent). The same applies to Cossacks II. I'm DL'ing the Demo now, but Is cossacks II like TW where its a big strategy map that pans in to the battle screen when 2 forces meet? or is it like AOE where you just build up troops and send them out around a disproportional map. If it's like AOE, I'll have to pass. So...what's Cossacks 2 Like?

I'd love to hear what you think about it Cossacks 2. I spent the day (afternoon) playing as the French, in the battle for Europe. Now the Grand Armee rules Europe, after the Austrians surrendered to the French.

C2 is more about fighting and less about managing resources. My all time favorite Napoleonic game was Waterloo, based on the Gettysburg engine. The most frustrating thing about C2, is the large battles. The computer tends to assault one point with all of its units, so it can turn into one giant furball.

I love the artillery! (I'm into my artillery realism) I've a few dream artillery shots, flanking fire into a column! You can follow the path of death, as the cannonball goes through the column, then boom!

I downloaded the Demo and I thought it was pretty cool as well. The entire system reminds me a lot of Company of Heroes (which I love!) and that is a major plus!

The only thing that is a setback with C2 is that There isn't going to be major Naval control in the game, and I want to be sure that I can send navies to blockade, impose, y'know...do their thing. So yeah. I'm still pretty undecided on the whole thing.

You could build some pretty cool ships in the original Cossacks. I had some pretty cool naval battles.
