In SH3 terms (as opposed to historical):

IXB = 4 forward, 2 aft, (21 torpedos total) 12,000KM @ 10 kts range,

IXC = same, except 22 torpedos and 13,450KM @ 10Kts range

IXC/40 = same as IXC unfortunatly.

All of the above dive at same speed, share same dimensions./ relatively same speeds and performace.

IXD2 = 4 forward/ 2 aft/ 24-26 torpedo's / 23,700km @ 12 kts range / slowest dive speed / fastest surface speed/ slowest underwater speed / largest dimensions.

IXB Proper lay out is 22 torps you need to correct this stock bug yourself

IXC/40 travels further at a lower surface speed (properly an economical boat)

Doesn't really matter cos your in base anyway, and it's similar to upgrading crew, weapons etc.

I'm sorry, but if you are so easily swayed by every passing wind that you need the help of others to decide what boat you should command, perhaps you are not suited to the submarine service. A desk might be more your style, or possibly even an infantry command.

On the Russian Front, maybe?
