I've had something similar happen with the out of box version of SHIV. I raided some Japanese harbor, shot 4 torpedos to anchored ship using the magnetic fuses. Every single one hit, but not the target ship, the destroyer anchored nearby or the DD's patrolling the bay noticed anything. Only after I struck the ship with impact fuse did the harbor light up and the alarms went off.

The ships in SH3 seemed to see the wake aof steamed powered torpedoes and tried to evade but in SH4 the merchants and warships don't care anymore. That's good for me but I do wonder if the Japanese are not as smart as their Allied counterparts.

The merchants in SH3 would not react either. Strangely, they would react to the white wake from the torpedoes. Strange lot of merchants if you ask me.
