Whoa.

You just bought that rig with Dual cards on SLI with only a 450 watt PSU?

Did it have two cards when you bought it or just one?

I just bought a single X1950 Pro and a 550 watt supply was not enough to run it along with an extra hard drive.

I currently have two seperate power supplies on my rig, the 550 for the motherboard and vid card, and a stock 350 for everything else.

A 450 watt trying to run an SLI setup, I would seriously be suspicious of, bought at a store that way or not.

Actually it's a 650 Watt ATX2.0 I have no idea why I said 450. Anyway, it's an Alienware Aurora.

I have experienced a similar problem as well, though in my case there was multi-colored smoke coming from the stacks of the ships, everything else looked fine

Ahhh...Yeah, that sounds better. The thought of two VPUs on a 450 is scary.

Donavan,

I have basically the same system, opteron 170(2 gigs) which is the same chip as yours and 7900 GTX.

Once in a while on the bridge, the sea will flash. The rest of the game is ok.

My system is not overclocked and does not overheat and I have a 550 Watts power supply.

To me it looks a lot more like a driver/game compatibility issue, maybe check on the UBI forum if someone reported a similar issue.

I get the quick flashes also. This was with 1.1. I have not seen them with 1.2. I use an ATI card. Something within the game is my feeling on it.

hmm.. I think the problem has been solved by doing several things.

I uninstalled one of the nvidia drivers I was trying to use to solve the problem. I've tried several. BUT, this time I used a program called "Driver Cleaner Pro" before I installed nvidia driver 93.81.

Afterwards, I still had ribbons, but not as bad, and just on the water while on watch. Then I remembered to uncheck "Show GPU Load Balancing" from the nvidia control panel. A cure for an Oblivion problem.

Now I seem to have NO problems, with the game video options set to high. Hopefully this problem is cured, and maybe you guys that are having similar problems can try these steps.

*crosses fingers*

Thanks again guys.

Sadly I can't as I have an ATI card so if any bright spark finds an answer for the flashing I'd be very grateful, as others with an ATI card would be also

I keep trying different options but all to no avail yet, if I find one that works I'll post about it.......but my ideas are running out fast........not sure if uinstalling and reinstalling with just the 1.2 patch would help, will try tomorrow
