Cool, merchies with lights!!! I have not seen this yet but nice addition.

You know, like the signal lights, there are things that occur to me when playing the game but I tend to "forget" them once I'm out.

The E-7 chief character on the lookout deck really does look authentic. The guy looks like a total dirtbag, but 1944 salty. It's just once of those things that immediately struck me -- yeah, that's pretty realistic.

"Hey, chief. Anyone ever tell you that you look like a real dirtbag?"
"All the time, Skipper. But I don't let'em bother me none."

The signal lights are great. I was stalking a task force and saw one of the BB's signaling a destroyer.

Little did I know that means that they spotted me and the destroyer promptly sent me to the bottom.

Lol, I had the same thing with the DD in a convoy. I saw him signal and start a turn towards me. I dived deep, and he and his buds kept me busy for about three hours.

The DD are pretty good in the game. I had them keep me down for about 2 hours last night

Another thing I noticed. As I was sitting on the bottom of shallow water and getting POUNDED by a DD I watched my men in the control room be thrown back and forth, back and forth. Uber cool. They didn't look like they were enjoying it, either.

Good attention to detail, that. Something other than the magnetically glued feet and internal gyroscopic gimbals the control room crew of SH3 has, no matter how the sub shakes and shimmies.

I like the periscopes how its a dark background with pullout tools when u need them. You dont get that "looking at" feeling as in SH3, its now "looking through" the periscope.

What most have said - detail detail and detail! Beautiful game to just load up and view. On a calm day at persicope depth looking above the water in external camera viewing your sub cruise along is amazing i can never get sick of that effect, I can see my submarine under the water from above!. This would of been an awesome effect for Kapitans in the Mediterrainean in SH3. During WW2 in some med areas aircaft could spot uboats from the air at 60feet submerged.

Just playing some, seeing the sub come up from below deserves a couple of
these

Unfortunate for me the monolith and volumetric fog slows me down on FPS.....but the new patch has handled the monolith and fog is in its own separate box to check or uncheck.....another thing they have done right all be it in a patch

Mud had a bit of a fix for the fog, do you have it, if not I can forward in a PM, but I guess it will be a non-issue with the new patch

My likes have all been mentioned, but my favorites include:

1. This is the Pacific theater, and it's done very nicely. I'm a Pacific War nut. In fact, I'm one of the insane people who play Matrix Games' "War in the Pacific," and I'm having great fun seeing the war from another perspective.

2. As everyone has said, the game just looks terrific. I have never taken more screenshots in any computer game, ever.

3. I love the way swells look in the periscope. It just feels real.

4. For whatever reason, I find this new manual targeting system more manageable than was the case in SH3.

5. As everyone says, the new crew rotation system is a huge improvement.

6. As is the dynamic campaign. I really feel I'm part of a larger war. In my second patrol, I was low on fuel, returning to Soerabaja, when suddenly I learned that I had to make for Perth instead. A very fun moment. Barely made it, incidentally.

7. Sanpans look cool in a periscope. So do junks.

8. One question, though: people mention hearing the radio. I've never heard it -- I only see the written reports on the clipboard. Can I actually hear radio? How do I do this? Or are y'all just referring to the in-game music?

Currently I run two mods, the reduced radio traffic mod and the green button mod. I do not want to install anymore mods until the patch comes. I sincerely appreciate the offer. I would have liked to have tried it. I have EE off and I do see that momolith of FPS death also. In a day or so all will be well in the land with 1.2

Somebody already mentioned the enemy crew on deck. They actually walk around and "do" stuff!

I shot up a fishing boat with the AA gun (I know, I'm evil)
and the crew actually went down when they got hit!!!

There are so many great little things. It's always much easier to notice the bad things.

The choice to start your mission in or out of port, for example. It's a no-brianer to have included it - but such a nice little touch.
