One nice improvement which I have noticed is the appearance of ships on the horizon.
In Sh3, ships were either invisisible or a small black shape would appear which would eventually grow into a ship as you got closer, effective, but a bit jarring. In SH4, it is much improved. First, you will notice lights blinking on the horizon, which I presume are to simulate signal lamps. Then, the ships will gradually form, swithching from a light blue, nearly indistinguishable from the horizon to a darker blue and then to the actual ship. This is much closer to RL. |

Oh how about the DD with the blinking lights communicating when they find a sub present?
I also like the alarm sound on the DD ![]()

The Interiors of the Gato Class are excellent! Everything in the right place.
I visited the USS Drum (Gato) in March and I must say the interiors in the game are spot on! ![]() |

I don't think anyone has mentioned the men in lifeboats.

Yes, the men in the lifeboats. They actually row the darn thing also. Heck, I have spotted them days later. Poor souls

In a downpour at night (strangly the seas were fairly calm) I torpedo a tanker. Stalked it, lost it, then tracked it for a bit. Went to the deckgun and started shooting at it. The tanker snapped on its spotlights and started returning fire. Was a great effect, scared the crap out of as I had not seen a merchant type flip on its searchlights before. My first thought was, where the hell did that DD come from!?
