My advice: Stay out from his way. But to report him to HQ, good move!

Yes. Stay submerged until you're confident you can surface and he won't see you. Report the contact by radio and hopefully some aircraft will be sent to bomb the hell out of them.
There's no way you could have caught up with warships. They're just so much faster than you. You just need to get lucky and end up near their axis of advance when you sight them.

I would have stayed down observing as much as I could through the scope and then call it in once he's over the top. Hopefully the guys with the bigger guns can put some steel on the target if they get the word in time.

I ran into an enemy Task Force near Luzon...and I was in perfect shape to fire some torps.....about 8 passenger carriers, a cruiser and LOTS of dd's!
I sent the contact repost a.s.a.p. Answer: Good find; we'll direct some other assets to deal with this. Break contact and return to base... Couldn't resist the temptation and fired a few shots at the convoy.....stupid move.....I was detected rapidly and they depthcharged me to death..... Should've let them go....can't win them all...

The only thing I chase are boats going "slow". These are usually heavy frieghters or passanger liners. Lots of times they have escorts which could either be destroyers or cruisers. If thats the case I'll usually make the military vessel the priority if I can swing around and attack the rear or flank. This requires that I stay submerged and rig for silent running.
If its just a destroyer and maybe a smaller (even faster) boat, I just let them go unless they're headed straight for me and I can sit and wait on them (well, a safe distance out of their path). Unlike SHIII, this game is loaded with targets. The IJN is on the warpath. Task forces all over the place. So I don't take unnecassary risks. Stay on course and sure enough you'll have another opportunity. |
