Default 1280x1024 vs. 1024x768

I've had my new 17" LCD monitor for a bit over a month now. It's native resolution is 1280x1024. However, when playing games I can't tell a difference between 1280x1024 or 1024x768. They look the same to me. The only way I would notice a game set with a resolution of 1280x1024 is the performance. I get better performance out of my video card when running games in 1024x768 (obviously ). Is there really a point to running games in 1280x1024 other than the monitor not having to switch resolutions between the desktop and game?

Are you sure? LCD's look fuzzy and terrible on resolutions that are not native. How could you not see that? The lack of sharpness.

I'm quite sure. There is no difference.

Well, if you are happy with it, then by all means, don't waste the vid card HP and use it!.

Personally, I am picky about it and I usually notice it right off.

My usual resolution is the lower possible, simply because I like larger icons and text files easy to read.

Can't say for LCD, but on traditional monitors 1024x768 seems the best standard setting for most of my needings.

Maybe his card automatically does some sharpening onto the picture in that mode? You can't get rid of the interpolation, but if you use sharpening correctly, you might be able to give an illusion of sharpness without being too blocky.

WHat's important is what he sees.

You should see a difference at 1280x1024 my lcd at this res shows up better sharpness & detail compared to 1024x768 - test the res with a first person shooter game
