Don't forget there is supposed to be a replay system so you can watch everything after a patrol without peeking with the external cam.

GOT TO HAVE THE EYE CANDY ON! 100% realism can come later.

In SHIII I love watching my boat sail in and out of the harbors. I'm sure I'll do the same in SH4. If the replay lives up to promise I'm sure I'll change my mind quickly.

For sure I'll do manual targeting from the get go, because that's one of the elements of the game I use most.
External camera absolutely will be on, both for training and for eye candy. For example, I always lower the scope after I shoot - I never watch the impact or the ship sinking through the scope. So I'll use the external to watch the sinkings - too much fun to miss, at least at first. Oh, thank the Creator - I now have enough posts I no longer have the "One Night In Bangkok" avatar. |

event cam on only. That way I get to see sinking and torpedo hits but I don't have to resist escort spying.

Reminds me of the old days of Rouge Spear when the real fun was watching the mini-movie you made blowing holes in people. Those were th good ol' days... maybe happy times again with SHIV. Because of the replay system I'll be playing 100% realism.

All of this sounds great!!! I just hope I ordered the right game. You all are calling it SH4(SHIV).
I ordered "Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific" and it will be here today via FedEx. I hope this is concidered Silent Hunter 4. (???) Cheers!!! |

It's quite funny seeing how mindlessly optimistic everyone was a week ago. Now SH4 is here, and many people can't play it at 100% realism since the Stadimeter causes a CTD (not to mention fuel burn rates, air monitoring, damage - or the lack of it, reduced crew comms, depth control probs - oh you know the list by now).
A week is a long time in politics they say... r. |

If you check a realism point like for instance check on "no to dud torpedoes" what does that exactly mean.Or anything that says no to it.

100% here: hitting ships isn't a problem, get in close and let loose (<1 km.). My TDC works fine....
Played a couple of (no reload!) careers so far, survived every piece of direct fire the Japs threw at me: I died from hitting crush depth (after torpedoing a BB!), and ploughing into a DD at night in a storm (we both went to the locker). |

I have never used the external camera EVER in SH3 as im a full switch player.
If SH4 gets a decent wrap and I buy it at a later date I may only use External camera if there was a post mission recording - otherwise im confined to the sub. After all the intention I hope is a sub simulation not a out of body experience sumulation. |
