My only objection is the title: you obviously DO have words for the patrol.

Well, true. :p

What I really meant was that, while I might be able to describe the patrol itself, I just don't have the words to describe the feelings, emotions, etc. that the patrol itself felt like. Honestly, even now, I can't really describe the intensity of the sensation at seeing two massive capital ships gradually appear out of the gloom and fog as they did, or what it felt like hydrophone-hunting the BB and coming up to that out of the heavy rain and fog, either.

Absolutely incredible doesn't even come close!

Good read!

With my luck all four would have been duds and all I woulda heard was a thud of the torp bouncing off the hull.

Speaking of luck!!...I was in an MP with Albrecht and Wilhelm last night during which I hit the BB King George V with 7 yes 7 eels and only 2 exploded on impact

Very nice piece of a battle report, Albrecht, thanks for that.

How come your patrols are so short? I had a look at your previous career logs and your longest type VII patrol was 15 days, 25 days in the current career... Unbelievabely short. My patrols usually last for much more than a month...

Thank you for the compliment!

Except for these last two patrols I return to port when my torpedoes are expended. I've no idea what the length of others patrols are like, but why mine may seem so short is because what usually happens is, within several days of leaving port, I either run across a convoy or get a convoy report. And once I do, I harry them until my torpedoes are gone.

I'll get into position to intercept, then flush 5 torps and go deep and silent. Then play cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek with the escorts until they give up and leave, then reload as I slowly come back up to periscope depth and turn back onto the convoy heading and back to the approximate area of the attack. If there are any cripples left behind I take them out with either torpedoes or deck gun, then surface, reload externals if I have them, and shadow the convoy for 2 - 6 hours before racing off and setting up another interception.

Two or three attacks like that and it doesn't take long to expend your full load.:p

Thanks! Hang onto your seat, you're in for a wild ride once you really get into the game!

Nice screens btw!
Sorry for the confusion. The two torpedoes I put into her must have crippled her engines, because she was dead in the water when I managed to find her. I am puzzled by the escorts behavior; you would think after having one of the two capital ships they were escorting sunk, and the other crippled and helpless, that they'd stick around to provide protection. BUt no-oooooo . . . they ran like whipped dogs. :p

I wish I had a better video card. My screenies never look as nice as some peoples here do.

@jimbuna: I remember that. Man, that had to have been frustrating!

I would think that if you fired even 1 dud into that ship, you would have heard a lot more then a thud just moments later:rotfl:

:rotfl: That's the thing....it usually happens whether you're ready for it or not. I still remember the first time I stumbled upon a capital warship...an Essex class carrier: "Oh my god, oh my god, what do I do, what do I do!?"

I ended up sinking her nonetheless. You'll do fine.
