Some of the ships that ply their trade on the Great Lakes are 1000 footers(300m)...more common size are 183m to 216m.

For some reason or other I can just visualize a contest between two men, chained to the bow of the ship in this storm, to see who can withstand the abuse the longest.

Naturally, neither of them would survive.
