Gotta go with calm, moonless night... let's you sneak in real close while still on the surface.

A semi dark night, half moon, will do fine. Also a hazy day with 7 to 9m/s winds will do fine too.

Or how about this, which I was in for 2 days straight in GWX. No joke, it was Grid BE18 Oct 9th & 10th, 1940.

It's one way for the crew to shower and save the subs fresh water supply.

I've done 5 or 6 WAW patrols now attacking convoys on the surface in dark, stormy nights, the nastier the better as the escorts have trouble spotting you. I try to set up a 90 AOB attack run cutting across the convoy lanes firing at 500m or less. Makes for some outstanding imersion, also makes for some outstanding repairs when the DD's finally catch up.

Calm sea? Moonless night? What the heck is that? Ever sense I installed GWX I always know when I'm close to a convoy because the weather turns to Baaad. Today, ma last convoy was in 15knt/sec wind. Seas high as a mountain. This was my 7th patrol in my trusty VIIC-2. A DD snuck up on me and sent all hands to the bottom. This was on the 7th of Aug 1942 off the NW coast of N. Africa.
I haven't had calm sea state since I installed GWX. Is it programed for bad weather? All the time when you find a convoy? :hmm:

Just anything calm, then if I'm in the middle of the convoy and a merchant isn't cooperating with me, I can just surface and put a few deck gun rounds into it to finish it off, with a hail of shells raining down around me and into the surrounding vessels. Then dive and hide underneath something and make my escape
