umm. I'd say your comments are not completely true. When you get a message from BDU that says a convoy or taskforce has been spotted, then it IS there, but unless it's near my location and I don't have to go much out of my way, then I usually don't bother because I know I'll run into something eventually and if it's a good distance away, then you would need a little luck in finding themn as they are continually moving of course. And you can, of course, verify it's been spotted by checking your Navigation Map as there will be a symbol showing it's location.

Yes, but he's referring to the radio messages recieved where you press "M" to get them, as am I. My comments are indeed completely true.

Again, I need to clarify. Any message you receive stating that a convoy, task force or ship has been spotted at a certain grid are indeed there. Those messages are visible in the scrolling text window as well as within your list of printed messages which you can read by pressing "M". The message should be titled "Contact Report received" or something like that. And every time you get one of those messages, you will always see the contact displayed on your navigation map.

I know what you're trying to say, but it's just a little misleading because they can also be seen by pressing "M". That's why I wanted to clarify. You make it look like any message received by pressing "M" is false, but that statement is incorrect.

i would tend to agree, if Bdu sent a message saying that there is a convoy at a certain grid it would be a bit daft if it wasnt really there, also you wouldnt be able yto tell the difference between real contacts and just the ones that are there for effect

I've intercepted many a convoy by getting those contact messages. It's no illusion.

There is a difference between Radio Messages and Radio Contact Reports. Radio Contact Reports are truly there in the game world, but the convoys reported in Radio Messages are taken from historic radio traffic and do not necessarily reflect the events going on in the SH3 world.

If, historically, Gunther Prien in U-47 radioed on June 14th, 1940 that there was a convoy in grid BF1158, that will show up in your Radio Messages, as GWX includes historical radio traffic. But I can almost guarantee you that if you sail over there in SH3, you will see nothing but empty ocean.

If BdU in SH3 sends you a Radio Contact Report of a convoy reported in Grid AM57, doing 8 kts and travelling NNW, you can indeed intercept this in game.

While we're at it: Why are the grids in the historical messages reported as XXxxxx, the capital Xs being letters, and the smaller x numbers. I know where BF, or CA or such grid is, but what do the four numbers instead of two mean? How could I work with them if I wanted to?
